Upon a Resolution of the Council of the Ss. Cyril and Methodius University in Skopje, dated 05.02.1965, the Institute for Sociological, Political, and Juridical Research was established, its objectives being:

  • to scientifically study the sociological, political, and juridical phenomena in the state, to initiate and organize the research of issues concerning sociology, political science and law, as well as the development of society;

  • to elaborate and develop a rigorous methodology in social sciences;

  • to work on the professional improvement of the existing scientific personnel and prepare junior personnel in the areas of sociology, political science and law;

  • to provide material and other articles for study and research work;

  • to organize various forms of work with expert bodies in order to facilitate their independent academic efforts;

  • to compile documentation for conducting practical training and practice at the faculties of social sciences at the University in Skopje;

  • to promote the problems in the areas of sociology, political science and law by organizing conferences, panels, and other suitable forms of presentation;

  • to provide and immediately announce the results of its research activities;

  • to print publications;

  • to develop a comprehensive scientific collaboration with appropriate institutions, organizations, and individuals who are engaged in research of issues concerning sociology, political science and law, both home and abroad.


This Resolution of the University Council, according to the procedure of that time, was confirmed by the Executive Council of the Assembly of the Socialist Republic of Macedonia on February 5th, 1965, and the Institute began operating on October 18th that year.
